Our projects are only possible with financial and “in-kind” support from a number of partners ranging from trusts and foundations, the business community and the generosity of individual givers. The Arts Active Trust was established to encourage, promote and educate the public in the arts, and in particular at St David’s Hall and the New Theatre. It exists to fund and champion the work of A2: Arts Active – an ambitious programme of education, community and audience engagement at St David’s Hall and the New Theatre.
Arts Active Trust’s interests are:-
- Audience development.
- Helping to break down the barriers that can prevent some people from enjoying the arts.
- Developing talents and life skills, especially among groups who are socially and economically disadvantaged, and for whom participation and engagement with the arts can act as a catalyst for change and personal development.
- To help raise the profile of St David’s Hall and the New Theatre.
For twenty-five years, the St David’s Hall has been the National Concert Hall of Wales, while the beautifully restored Edwardian New Theatre has been an integral part of Cardiff’s cultural life since 1906. In addition to providing an exceptionally diverse programme encompassing music, drama and dance, the two venues share an enterprising community programme – Arts Active – which last year undertook 24 projects across Cardiff and surrounding areas, consisting of 860 sessions with 9,868 different participants. The Arts Active education and community programme is recognised as one of the best of its kind for a performing arts venue, introducing the performing and visual arts in a fresh and innovative way to the widest possible range of people, especially those who have never before had the chance to take part in arts activities.
