Upskill your teaching team with the help of an Arts Champion

A2 Connect Arts Champions are teachers who work with us to share their practice and expertise with other schools/teachers in the region. They …

• help teachers and schools to get a better understanding of what good practise looks like in collaborative arts and education projects

• encourage supportive relationships between specialist and non-specialist staff  in a school, a cluster or a wider area

• encourage relationships between schools and creative arts industries in their area

• help to shape and steer our work for teachers

Partner with an Arts Champion

Arts Champions can offer you/your school various types of support in the Expressive Arts, including:

• A full staff inset on Expressive Arts projects and interdisciplinary working

One to one peer support / mentoring

• Specific skills development in Expressive Arts subjects for non-specialist teachers

Estyn recently wrote a case study: ‘The sound of success – using music to develop literacy skills’ about the work of one of our Arts Champions in his own school.

Music is a high priority at Rhydypenau Primary School where schemes of work focus on singing, playing, composing and appraising. Pupils regularly explore a range of instruments, which helps their wellbeing, team work and resilience. With careful planning, music is also used to achieve high standards in literacy through writing lyrics and turning poetry into song. The quality of pupils’ writing at the school has been acknowledged through several awards and national competitions. The wide range of musical experiences allows many opportunities for pupils to become engaged in their learning. Read on …
