Join us for a dynamic day of professional learning designed to inspire educators and deepen their approach to teaching music and dance within the Curriculum for Wales. Our expert-led sessions will provide practical tools, cultural insights, and creative strategies to enrich classroom experiences. Select the sessions most relevant to you and your school’s needs.

Expanding Creativity and Cultural Understanding

Session 1: Charanga Bonanza

Presented by CerddCF
Explore Charanga Cymru’s Creative Tools and learn how to integrate music technology into your classroom. This session will guide you through Yu Studio (similar to GarageBand) for digital music creation, Quickbeats for percussion practice, Music Notepad for simple composition, Rhythm Grids for clapping and notation, and Music Explorer for interactive games focused on pulse, listening skills, and improvisation. These tools will support your students’ musical progression in a fun and engaging way.

Session 2: Enriching Your First Experiences

Presented by CerddCF
Ensure your learners’ first experiences with music leave a lasting impact. This session will demonstrate how to use Charanga Cymru to build a legacy of music learning in your school. We will explore pathways to progress from initial musical exploration to more complex instruments and playing techniques, supporting continuous musical growth for your learners.

Session 3: Gamelan – World Music as a Teaching Tool

Presented by Arts Active

Gamelan music from Indonesia provides a rich cultural case study for exploring musical traditions from other parts of the world. This session will use Gamelan to discuss key themes such as Shaping Ideas, Cultural Heritage, Societal Change, and Other Places, helping teachers incorporate world music into their lessons to foster broader cultural understanding through the arts.

Session 4: The Vocabulary of Dance

Presented by National Dance Company Wales
Dive into the terminology of dance with this practical session designed to demystify the language of movement. Using straightforward explanations, this session will help you understand the foundational vocabulary and techniques of dance, equipping you to guide your students through their progression in dance skills with confidence.

Session 5: How Dance Can Enrich My Curriculum

Presented by Rubicon Dance
Through a mix of discussion and hands-on activities, this session will demonstrate how dance can enhance your curriculum. Experienced practitioners from Rubicon Dance will share ideas on how to integrate dance into your lessons to support wider learning objectives and student engagement across various subjects.

Session 6: Voices for Voices

Presented by Welsh National Opera (WNO)
Explore the power of the human voice in the classroom. This session will focus on using vocal techniques as a tool for musical expression, helping students connect with their own voices as instruments. Learn from WNO experts how to inspire vocal confidence and creativity in your learners.

This day for Primary school teachers is packed with opportunities to explore new creative tools, world music, dance vocabulary, and voice techniques.
