Autumn Young Composers Course

10:00AM - 1:30PM
Chapter Arts Centre

Are you an aspiring young musician aged 14-18?

Do you want to develop your skills in composition, instrumentation and arranging?

This term’s Arts Active Young Composers course will focus on learning to compose for a compose for a trio of harp, violin and flute. You will be working alongside professional musicians and guided by composer Natalie Roe.

Natalie is a composer, flautist and pianist based in Cardiff where she graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She explores both acoustic and electronic styles of music. During her time in Cardiff so far Natalie has had music performed by The Berkeley Ensemble; members of the London Sinfonietta and BBC NOWNewCelf and was a composer and sound designer for The Richard Burton Company and The Royal Court Theatre’s ‘NEW: 2020’ play ‘Half Full’. Natalie continues her musical career in the Midlands by being Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s ‘Young Composers Project’ composer in residence. She has also had feedback on her compositions from Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi and Master of the Queen’s music, Judith Weir.

At the end of this FREE four-day course, you will be able to hear your composition played live by the musicians. The performance will be recorded and sent out for you to keep and include in any portfolio you may be building for school or university.
