On Tuesday 8th July, the summer Soundworks term drew to a close with a fantastic outdoor event at Western Leisure Centre. Samba band Jamma de Samba provided a 90-minute percussion workshop, which saw participants, carers and staff performing together on a variety of drums and other percussion instruments. The workshop involved learning a piece from scratch, with each instrument taking a turn to solo. The group was treated to glorious summer weather and even had its own ice cream van come along for the occasion – a delicious way to cool off!
We are now looking forward to the autumn term, which will culminate in the annual Soundworks Christmas party, with guest brass musicians!
Soundworks is Arts Active’s programme for adults with additional learning needs and autism. It runs on Tuesdays during term time at Western Leisure Centre. To enquire about the sessions, please email A2@artsactive.org.uk.
