Out of Doors LIVE is back for 2022 at the Summer of Fun Festival. 

Summer of Fun is a festival for Cardiff’s children and young people running throughout the summer holidays.

Play, Explore, Create & Grow!

Following on from last year’s Summer of Smiles and the Winter of Wellbeing,  we are delighted  that we have been commissioned again by Cardiff Council by the Child Friendly Cardiff UNICEF National Friends Cities and Communities  to curate and deliver a city wide arts and cultural programme  for children & young people, funded by the Welsh Government. #SummerOfFun.

Throughout July and August Arts Active are working with partners across the city to run a range of fun arts events and activities for children, young people and families from 0-25. Our showcase event will be the Out of Doors LIVE at the Summer of Fun festival on the City Hall Lawn where from 23 July – 7 August we will have a packed programme of  arts activities and entertainment.

We all have one aim in common and that is to support families, children and young people in offering varied opportunities to play, explore, create and grow which will we hope bring joy, improve wellbeing, social development and so much more’. Sharing the Summer of Fun across Cardiff and its Communities!

As well as the activity on the City Hall festival site,  we are also working with various partners throughout the summer  across the city offering  lots of fun arts activities for children and young people. There will be the Fit, Fed and fun arts activities with Better Cardiff Eastern & Western Leisure Centre; Pop up events in the east of the city in partnership with Cardiff Youth Service; Art & craft sessions with Barnardos in Ely; Creative well-being sessions at Ty – Green farm and a street art project in partnership with Grange Pavilion ‘Girls Group.

The Cardiff Young Streets Artists Development project will follow a group of young artists as they create, develop and produce  new work. Alongside this new work, a trail and information about each young artist is in development and will be available to view via our website at the end of the project.

 Heading over to Llanrumney we will have CommonWealth Theatre’s Epic Fail Legacy Project. More details on this to follow.  Then we will be calling on Cardiff’s young detectives to help us in solving the mystery of ‘The Curious Case of Aberlliw’, an outdoor Live theatre event  from Taking Flight Theatre Company. Fit, Fed and Fun Arts Activities with Better Leisure, Cardiff

Children and young people will have the opportunity to participate in a  mix of  craft and arts activities at Better Cardiff Eastern & Western Leisure Centres as part of the Summer of Fun festival.

The events run all day from 11am-2pm. In addition to these events, there are other sports and fun activities happening throughout the day.

The Department of Strange Events-The Curious Case of Aberlliw

Calling all Cardiff’s young detectives, discoverers and those who dare to dream!

This interactive, inclusive, family performance event is part of the Arts Active programme for Summer of Fun and will run in Bute Park on Wed 24, Thurs 25 & Fri 26 August at various times.

Welcome to the Department of Strange Events. As a new recruit, you are thrown in the deep end with the troubling news that a small town in Wales is suffering from a catastrophic, complete loss of colour! One year ago something stole all the colour and nothing has been the same since. If you can help the townsfolk bring the colours back to Aberlliw, promotion and a permanent position within the Department are on the cards for sure.

You will receive live video updates from Aberlliw and tasks to complete via an app as you journey around your chosen location.

The performance experience is fully supported by BSL interpretation and is available to book in English and Welsh.
