Teachers Dance Courses with Matthew Bourne’s Company

Dance Teacher’s CPD with Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures & Re:Bourne

Wednesday 15th March
Dance House
Wales Millennium Centre
10:00am – 4:00pm
Performance of The Red Shoes 7:30pm

A specialist dance course for teachers who lead dance teaching and movement in schools. This is an opportunity to work with members of Mathew Bourne’s New Adventures & Re:Bourne when they visit Wales to present Matthew Bourne’s magical adaptation of The Red Shoes, based on the award winning movie by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger and the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale with music by Bernard Herrmann.

Working with the company, participants will explore Matthew Bourne’s creative processes and the tasks and tools he uses to create his shows. The day long workshop will begin with a warm up using different techniques to explore the space and build in the idea of character and storytelling through movement. This will move into a repertoire section where participants will learn choreography from The Red Shoes and concentrate on honing performance practice. Finally, the participants will experience and develop tasks that were used to create movement in the show.

The day will be a chance to learn, enhance and discuss skills and approaches that can be used to engage and inspire young people through dance. The workshop will finish with a Q&A. In the evening the group will then attend the performance of The Red Shoes in the Donald Gordon Theatre at the Wales Millennium Centre as our guests.

The Deal

  • The course is free and teachers accepted onto the course will receive a day workshop, a light lunch and refreshments and a complimentary ticket to the evening performance of The Red Shoes.
